The Rolling Stones, Shine A Light

At the age of 16 in 1971 I told my mom the biggest lie in my entire time at home. Instead of going on a trip to the beach with my friends parents like I said we were doing, my friend and I packed up my white VW beetle and drove ten hours from central FL to Tuscaloosa, AL to see The Rolling Stones! Stevie Wonder opened for them and it was a phenomenal show to say the least. My framed ticket stub and photos from the concert is still hanging proud! Even though the ten hours one way was totally worth it, since then I've only seen them when they've come to town.

Last Thursday nite, Clay & I met our good friends Bob & Susan (who are getting married this month!), at the fabulous Fox Theatre where they showed the movie "Shine A Light". We all had a seriously fun time. Here is the movie write up: A fresh look at the "Greatest Rock 'N Roll Band Ever" through the lens of one of the greatest behind-the-camera men ever, Martin Scorsese. Southern Comfort - Paula Deen Recipe

If you enjoy an adult beverage now and then I'd like to reintroduce you to good old Southern Comfort. It's whiskey mixed with a secret blend of flavors (peach, orange, vanilla, cinnamon...). I remember ordering it in my early twenties, but I never went out and bought a bottle. It's now my drink of choice, and I think it's become my husband's new fave too. Janis Joplin liked it so much she hinted to the company that because she drank it so much onstage they should pay her for advertising. They sent her a big check! I like it with lite cranberry juice, but a lot of people like it with club soda or cola. If you mix it with orange juice I don't think you'll ever order the same old screwdriver again. Be careful, as it's so good it's dangerous! Below is a crowd pleasing recipe that has great reviews on allrecipes.com. The recipe creator is a very southern lady herself - Ms. Paula Deen. Southern Comfort Punch
1 large can frozen orange juice concentrate

1 can frozen banana daiquiri mix (or strawberry)

3/4 cup lemon juice

1 1/2 liter ginger ale 1 5th bottle Southern Comfort whiskey, or to taste

Lemonade Ice Ring, recipe follows
In a large punch bowl, combine orange juice concentrate, banana daiquiri mix and lemon juice. Stir to blend. Slowly add ginger ale. Remove excess foam with a spoon and stir in Southern Comfort. Add lemonade ice ring.

Lemonade Ice Ring:

2 lemons, sliced round

1 orange, sliced round

2 limes, sliced round

1 small jar maraschino cherries

1 quart lemonade 1 sprig mint, optional
In a round mold, place some sliced lemons, oranges and lime rings in the bottom. Place cherries in the center of the orange rings. Slowly add lemonade just to cover. Freeze. Remove mold from freezer and add more fruit and mint leaves. Slowly fill with lemonade and freeze again. Place frozen ice ring in punch.

Yield: 1 ice ring Prep Time: 10 minutes, plus freezing time Ease of preparation: easy

Friends are the roses of life.

Look at what my friend and gardening neighbor Annabelle brought to my door yesterday. She really has an eye for picking out perfect colors. Annabelle and I both like to putter around in the yard. All we know is that it is a shrub rose. She said it was lonely in the garden nursery next to all those pink roses and she just knew it would be perfect for me. No idea how tall or wide it’s going to get. I hope it gets really big like her thoughfulness. Today I’ll decide exactly where its place of honor will be in our yard. Thank you Annabelle, you are a rose girlfriend. XOXO

Treasured Side Table & More

Almost everyone who visits asks me about my very treasured side table. I inherited it from my dear mother-in-law Mary. I think it's Dutch Colonial if there is such a thing? The top is white marble, and the back has blue/white/yellow tiles. I just adore it and am so thankful it fits (even if a little snugly) in this space. I know it's hard to tell from this small photo, but the portrait above it is of a yorkie on a blanket. When I first saw it, it was love at first sight! Our little yorkie, Brittany, that owned us for 14 years looked exactly like this. Unbelievable! Even more unbelievable is that it was only $40. My heart was pacing and I couldn't get it paid for fast enough! The shells in the dish below it are from Juno Beach, FL, and Tortola, B.V.I. - two fave places. Needless to say this side of our breakfast nook makes me smile! If I ever take another photo I'll be sure and hide the lamp cord and raise the valances a bit. It's amazing what you can learn from a photo. Like I say, it's ALWAYS SOMETHING. *smile* Thanks so much for dropping in and letting me share. XOXO
